Who We Are

Founded in early 2019, East Bay YIMBY is a chapter of YIMBY Action, a national nonprofit fighting for a future with more housing, more opportunity, and more justice for all. We believe that the East Bay should be a place where everyone can find a safe, affordable, and quality home, regardless of their income, background, or identity.

Our mission is simple: to dismantle the barriers to housing affordability and create a more inclusive and vibrant East Bay. We achieve this by:

  • Advocating for pro-housing policies: This includes supporting zoning reforms, streamlining permitting processes, and increasing funding for affordable housing initiatives.
  • Empowering our community: We provide education, resources, and opportunities for residents to get involved in the fight for housing justice.
  • Building coalitions: We partner with diverse stakeholders, including tenants, developers, elected officials, and community organizations, to achieve our shared goals.

Since our founding, we've made significant progress:

  • We helped elect pro-housing candidates to local office.
  • We successfully advocated for zoning reforms in several East Bay cities.
  • We raised awareness about the importance of housing affordability and equity.

But there's still more work to do. The East Bay housing crisis continues to threaten the well-being of our communities. We need your help to build a more equitable and abundant East Bay for everyone.

Join us and become part of the solution.
